Poëzie & Drama
Tolkien’s acclaimed modern classic ‘fairie’ tale, read by Derek Jacobi.
‘Here is something that no devotee of the Hobbit epic can afford to miss, while awaiting a further instalment of the history of these fascinating people – a selection [of verses] offered as an ‘interim report’ to those interested in Hobbit-lore, and to any others who may find amusement in this mixed bag of old confections.’
One of the most intriguing characters in The Lord of the Rings, the amusing and enigmatic Tom Bombadil, also appears in verses said to have been written by Hobbits and preserved in the ‘Red Book’ with stories of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins and their friends. The Adventures of Tom Bombadil collects these and other poems, mainly concerned with legends and jests of the Shire at the end of the Third Age.
This special edition has been expanded to include earlier versions of some of Tolkien’s poems, a fragment of a prose story with Tom Bombadil, and comprehensive notes by acclaimed Tolkien scholars Christina Scull and Wayne G. Hammond.

This book contains a selection of Middle Earth songs and poems, and various other ones. It is beautiful illustrated. Hobbit lovers would fall in love with all the sweet Hobbit poems. If you want to end up dancing or singing alone or together with your family members then read this book. He, floating on the inky sea,A sunny island seems to be,Although a trifle bare.Conniving gulls there strut and prink,Their job is to tip the wink,If any one lands there with kettleTo make a picnic tea, or to getRelief from sickness or the wet,Or some, perhaps, to settleSome poems didn't hold my attention, but that have more to do with the fact that I don't enjoy reading poetry books.Various characters are mentioned, and overall the creativity of this book was on another level. I also listened to the audio version which made it a bit more difficult for me to follow everything without being distracted.

Er zit een storing in het luisterboek, waardoor hij hapert. Met een koptelefoon op zorgt dit voor hele nare hoge piepjes in je oren.
