‘So to mortal men, we are monsters. Because of our flight, our strength. They fear us, so they call us monsters’
Medusa is the sole mortal in a family of gods. Growing up with her Gorgon sisters, she begins to realize that she is the only one who experiences change, the only one who can be hurt.
When Poseidon commits an unforgiveable act against Medusa in the temple of Athene, the goddess takes her revenge where she can: on his victim. Medusa is changed forever – writhing snakes for hair and her gaze now turns any living creature to stone. She can look at nothing without destroying it.
Desperate to protect her beloved sisters, Medusa condemns herself to a life of shadows. Until Perseus embarks upon a quest to fetch the head of a Gorgon . . .

This book is so beautiful written. I know Medusa’s story by heart now but this “version” took me by suprise one e again. I also love how we meet other characters throughout this book and how they’re all connected to Medusa. This book just screams feminist exploration of the female rage and I’m here for it.

A brilliant retelling of more than just the story of Medusa. It incorporates so much more Greek mythology and combines that effortlessly with a more modern look. The questions the story asks are relevant not only to the story, but also in our changing world today: when is someone the 'bad guy'? Is everyone who is different from ourselves a monster (spoiler: no!)?But even if you don't like such deeper questions, you can simply choose not to ask or answer them. You can just let yourself be swept along by the brilliant prose and engaging plot, and enjoy how all the little threads that make up this tale are woven together.

I can‘t decide what I loved more, the book or the narrating of it - both are absolutely brilliant.

One of my favourite books of all time, I have read it over and over, this book could not be deserving of less praise. The humor is strong, it’s driven by women characters, it is respectful towards its original source material, it’s well written and well read.

Very good narration. Feels like a friend recounting a story to you over a cup of tea at the dining table.
